Desiree Crooks
Registered Psychotherapist
BA, MACP
My name is Desiree Crooks. I am a counsellor at Blue Oaks Counselling and Wellness with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I also hold a Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in Psychology from Laurentian University as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Infant and Young Child Mental Health from Seneca College.
I have previous experience working as a Behavioural Therapist with children and young adults diagnosed with ASD, FASD, and Anxiety. Furthermore, I have worked with individuals seeking therapy to overcome symptoms associated with trauma such as PTSD, anxiety, and dissociation. I recently completed a training in Somatic Experiencing which is an alternative form of therapy for treating stress-related disorders through bottom-up processing.
My philosophy of counselling believes that change is deeply rooted in the therapeutic relationship. My approach is to provide clients a collaborative process fostered by openness, non-judgment, and unconditional positive regard.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time in nature, hiking, camping, and skating. During the summer months I enjoy traveling around Ontario to explore different camping spots, parks, and lakes. In the winter I spend a little less time outside but remain active at the gym and enjoy quality time with my family and pups.
